All of the Costumes, All of the Time

Gah!  There's something to see before coffee in the morning.  Anyway, these are the Redbubble leggings. They're a little thicker and spanx-ier than I would've thought, but they're still somewhat see through in the white parts.  If you wear black underpants, they will probably be visible.  Here's a checkerboard to demonstrate, but it doesn't show up that well. It's a little easier to see if you hold your screen at an angle. Anyway, Escape from New York!  Woo!  And I also approve of their tag:  

Mary Morstan Big Entrance Dress So this is my version of the purple dress with black leaves that Mary wears in the BBC Sherlock's "The Empty Hearse".  It's not 100% screen-accurate, but it's fairly reasonably priced compared to the availability.  I still haven't made a Spoonflower fabric, but that's in the works. I was noticing that along with the Woman on the Bus dress, it's extremely difficult to see the complete garment.  Mary you can only see in Empty Hearse, mostly from the higher part of the waist up, and then a brief, long-distance glimpse of her back.  Then in His Last Vow, you can see one side down to about knee level, but that's definitely not enough to completely make a dress.  And it has little black sparkles on it, but you can't order those on Redbubble. https://www.redbubble.com/people/elaphushouse/works/33039263-mary-watson-dress?asc=u&p=a-line-dress

Molly Hooper Shirt Pattern Pillow Why did I make Molly's Empty Hearse shirt pattern into a pillow?  Because Redbubble doesn't make doormats! No, that's mean, but seriously.  I like the BBC Sherlock, but there are things I wish they'd change.  So here's the 16" x 16" pillow cover, around a Tardis door pillow I bought separately.  You can just barely see through the cover.  Here the pillow is with a ruler on top, so you can see the sharpness in comparison. It also came with a cream colored zipper, which I thought was a little strange. That's a tan sheet in the background, not a white one. I feel like there might be a Leslie Nielsen movie called Dirndl Top: Part 2.  But anyway, it's done now.  It turned out it is long enough for the sleeves, if you don't want them elbow-length like the picture on the pattern envelope. Cutting out the largest size for the sleeves worked out for my zaftig arms, and it wasn't too difficult to get the rest of the cloth gathered into the armhole.  I pinned all the straight, non-gathered parts of the sleeve to the armhole, and then finagled the remaining amount from there.  I just made the basting stitches go a little further along the upper edge of the sleeve piece. I did four buttons for the front, and it turns out I did have enough elastic lying around the house to do both the sleeves and the bottom of the blouse.  It does seem a little strange to me to have an old-fashioned European outfit where the blouse doesn't cover the gut, but there you have it. Dirndl Top Made From Umbrellas You read that right.  I am making a dirndl top out of umbrella fabric.  What?  All the cool kids are doing it!  I heard that little girl with the fashion blog who dyed her hair gray made one.  No, not really.  Anyway, I'm a hoarder, and every year when I see inside-out umbrellas lying in the street, I think, "I bet I could do something with that."  So I cut the cloth off of two busted umbrellas I found, washed it, and here we are. Step 2:  Baste all the pieces together. Step 3:  Look at the pieces and realize they're all backwards, and take them all apart and baste them together the right way. When You Don't Care Enough To Make The Very Best I mean sure, you could make a big cling wrap and duct tape arm, but this is so much easier!  It is going to have some wrinkles in it, but it's lighter weight, allows your arm to move more, and breathes better. This is what you get if you order a fat quarter of the Sport Lycra "Upper Arm Metal", and the Sport Lycra "Lower Arm Metal". So with this amount, you can fit a variety of arm sizes.  I made a division at the elbow joint, with the upper arm being the usual sleeve shape for a shirt.  The lower arm I made longer in the elbow, since I don't exactly walk around with my arms hanging straight down; they always have a little bend to them. I can't give you an exact pattern for your arm, it's just a matter of taking it in enough that the arm doesn't have too many wrinkles from being too baggy, but also doesn't have wrinkles from being too tight.
